Welcome to Man vs Lakes – 15th July 2017

After a spectacular inaugural event in 2016 Man vs Lakes returns to the Lake District on the 15th July 2017. Get ready to take on the most adventurous marathon- distance running journey in Britain.

This 26.2 is like nothing you will have experienced. You will enter the Lake District by striking out with an audacious and surreal crossing of the quicksands of Morecambe Bay, before plunging north through mountainous country on a rollercoaster running route that brings you to the foot of England’s most famous Lake. A shore-to-shore crossing of Windermere at its narrowest point will set the stage for what is yet to come: Proceeding higher into the hills and forests of the area and immersing yourself into the Lake itself, tackling short wades, swims,* slides, jumps and an amazingly bold floating assault course. A trademark Man Vs “Vertical Kilometre” will push those quads to breaking point and help to rack up a whopping 3000ft of ascent before you psych yourself up for a “Swallows and Amazons” rope swing suspended from a crane chucking you into the drink. After clocking up those miles you’re going to be looking forward to a lie down and a pint of Wainwright Golden Beer, sit back and relax as you  hurtle across the finish line on our giant water slide.

* This is a running event, not a swimming event. You will certainly get wet. When there is full immersion we will issue buoyancy aids and have water safety staff on standby. In order to complete the event fully, you must be able to swim. But all of the swim sections are short and can be bypassed if you wish.

All prices include VAT at 20% and are subject to an administration fee.
– Why have the extra fee rather than just putting up the entry price?

• No-one likes hidden extras. We are upfront about this fee. The fairest way for us to be fully transparent is to separate this cost out and explain it. The Processing Fee has discrete input costs independent of the direct costs that produce the event. We reserve the right to change this fee based on the processing costs at any time.

– Why use the system we use?

• The online payment process is provided by Paypal so it is very secure.

• It offers the opportunity to pay directly from your Paypal account (if you prefer this to paying by credit card or debit card).

• It is the cheapest and best value solution we can find and it is tailored to the events you are entering. We feel it is very competitive in the marketplace, versus the fees charged by other professional event operators.

• It integrates with charity donation web sites so there is a quick and easy way for you to raise money and obtain your fund-raising discount, should you choose. –

This fee covers the costs of operating the following:

• The credit card and Paypal processing fees

• The IT development in building, hosting and maintaining the online entry system.

• The associated bank fees and insurances required to process the event registration fees

• The administration personnel costs of running the registration database

• VAT at 20%

– Why add on a percentage rather than a set fee?

• Rat Race offer such a range of challenges that our price points vary massively. Therefore it is considered the fairest option that all customers are charged the same %age pro rata.

– How can I save money?

• The processing fee will be less the earlier you enter (as it is calculated as a %age) so take advantage of the Early Bird offers to get the best prices across the board.

• Buy a Rat Race Season Ticket

• Raise money for our charity partner Children With Cancer UK* and race for free, see details here
