MORE INFORMATION:

Our breathtaking 25 mile route takes in high cliffs, brooding moorland, picture-perfect beaches, crashing waves, big swells, rough-hewn rocks, water jumps, short swims and a few cheeky surprises. This is one for the adventurer who wants to make a weekend of it. Utterly unique in the classic Rat Race vein – this is coasteering-meets-running with a smattering of Rat Race derring-do chucked in for good measure.

Bring your family, bring your mates. Stay for a while and experience Cornwall in the height of summer. With a stunning Start-line at Marazion Beach, the route will weave its way coast to coast from one side of the Cornish peninsula to the other, taking in a course that is exciting beyond belief.

The nature of an adventure is that sometimes, the uncertain becomes certain! That is all part of the adventure. Whilst we will always strive to pull off ‘Plan A,’ it may well be that for any one of a number of reasons, we cannot do so and we ned to wheel put Plan B, C or D. We do line up contingencies for many eventualities of course. But it is worth knowing that the course may change if we deem it prudent for your safety or for other operational or weather-based reasons and we must always reserve the right to do so. Ultimately our skill and judgement in organising such events is part of why you are entering, so we must be able to exercise this on your behalf where we deem it necessary. If we do have to make a route change, we will strive to inform you in good time (if that is possible). Usually, these unforeseen changes simply add to the flavour of proceedings and provide for a good story to tell at day’s end!

Click ‘Buy Event Voucher’ and go through the sign-up process, you’ll then be issued with an event voucher which will automatically reserve you a place in the event you have chosen.

Registration is at Penzance Leisure Centre on the 5th July ONLY between 1400 - 2200. There is no registration available on the 6th July before the start.

Getting to the start line is important and we are there to help you as best we can. However, if you feel on reflection that it is just not your time yet, we do have a transfer system that you can use to transfer out, receive Rat Race credit and come back again next year or do something else. Credit is typically valid for 12 months and there is a fee to be paid for transferring out in this way. We want to be really clear that this option is there for you if you need it, but it does have a deadline. View our full terms and conditions here.

The latest kit list will be sent to you before the event within the Essential Event Information Document.

Of course. If you run for Children with Cancer UK and raise the target amount for this event per person, we will refund your entry fee up to the amount of £2500. You are of course more than welcome to fundraise for any cause close to your heart.

Yes, you can. We welcome support on almost all of our events and if you do decide you want to come and work with us, we will make sure we look after you. Click here to find out more about volunteering for Rat Race.

We’ve put together a fantastic new instalment plan that allows you to choose how many months you want to spread the cost of this brilliant adventure over. You can pay it off all in one go or spread it over as many months as you like, totally interest free. There is no credit check required to use this facility. When you sign up to the instalment plan Rat Race will then set up a reoccurring payment and your card will be debited on the same date each month. If there is an error with your payment you will receive reminders from Stripe, our payment provider, and also the Rat Race customer service team. After 3 attempts to contact you if the outstanding balance remains unpaid we will assume you wish to cancel your entry and will withdraw you from the event and you will not be eligible to enter our transfer process and no monies will be refunded.

Add Refund Protect to your booking during purchase and receive a full refund of your entry fee if you are unable to attend the event due to a qualifying unforeseen circumstance. PLEASE NOTE this protection is with our 3rd party partner Refund Protect and NOT Rat Race. In the event you make a refund application this is administered by the Refund Protect customer service team, Rat Race are not privy to the application and cannot intervene on your behalf to influence the outcome determined by their team.

To check the full list of qualifying unforeseen circumstances that are protected please click here to view Refund Protect terms and conditions.

To add Refund Protect (administered by a 3rd party) to your Rat Race booking simply select this option when presented during the entry process. Refund Protect cannot be added retrospectively. Rat Race will then send you name and booking details to Refund Protect in order to protect your transaction with them. If you opt to pay in instalments and transfer your entry before the entry cost is full paid you will be liable to ensure the cost of Refund Protect has been fully covered. This total amount will be deducted from any Rat Race credit due through the transfer process or you will be invoiced by Rat Race for the outstanding amount as Rat Race have paid this on your behalf to Refund Protect at point of entry.

By entering this event you agreed that you have entered in your own name (not nickname) and will bring photographic ID to event registration to prove your identity. If you cannot prove your identity at that time then you won’t be able to complete registration and therefore won’t be able to take part.

This is a running event, not a swimming event, but you will certainly get wet, and when it is full immersion we will issue buoyancy aids and have water safety staff on standby. In order to complete the event fully, you must be able to swim. But all of the water sections are short and can be bypassed if you wish. This is not a ‘swim-run’ event where you are transferring from land to water on a regular basis, in wetsuits. Wetsuits are not required and this is predominantly a running event with short (and fun) water sections interspersed.

Good question. You need to be ready to do at least 20 miles on foot in rugged coastal terrain. That means sturdy off-road footwear, possibly some good waterproofs with taped seams (if the weather is looking rough we may make these mandatory), gloves, headwear and plenty to eat and drink. We’ll release a mandatory kit list prior to the event that you must carry for your safety. This mandatory kit must be offered for inspection at registration before you are allowed to complete registration. Based on weather conditions, we may insist on more mandatory kit too, nearer the time, such as waterproofs. We need to make sure you have appropriate equipment for the conditions if you are no longer able to proceed along the run route. But the basic principle here is to dress comfortably, in gear that you know and trust. Spend some time on the trail and try some combinations. We will have some feed stations en route but you should also endeavour to carry fluids and food that suit you. Our feed stations are there to support you; but they won’t provide energy gels and the like, so if you have a favourite Scooby snack or race nutrition solution, you should pack that on your person. The Rat Race Store has some handy kit options for this epic challenge. You do NOT need any watersports gear, such as wetsuits or buoyancy aids. There will be sections where we issue a buoyancy aid which we will supply, although there are no sections where wetsuits are required.

It is at least 25 miles. But it might feel like 50  with significant ascent and descent, some very steep terrain, possibly strong winds and some very salty sea air. This is a full day’s outing on rugged ground with the sea never far away and in multiple occasions, you will be in it too. Expect hand on rock scrambling, jumps, short swims and a solid outing in the legs on the run.

On race day we will be providing a pre-event bus transfer from the finish line venue at Land’s End. This service will cost £12.50. Buses are allocated against demand and must be pre-booked when you enter or through your account login in the ‘add products’ section. The bus will leave Land’s End Saturday morning at 7am and 8am. Those in early waves should aim for the early bus to ensure there in good time, while those in the later waves should book the 8am service so they are not waiting around at the start line too long. You can also drive to the Start and park at Marazion Beach where a parking charge will apply payable to the land owner. If you leave your car at the start line you will need to plan your own transport to collect it.

The event course goes from Marazion Beach to Land’s End. The registration venue is at Penzance. The nearest airport is Newquay, served from London, UK regional airports and some European destinations. It is 45 mins drive to Penzance from Newquay airport. The mainline train from London and from stations across Britain terminates at Penzance. Journey time from London by train is 5h45m and there are up to 12 trains/ day from London Paddington and connecting stations via Reading, Bristol and Exeter. The A30 dual-carriageway goes to Penzance and connects to the motorway network via the M5 through the South West and to the North and M4 towards London. Road journey time to Penzance is 3h15m from Bristol and 5h00m from London.

A shuttle service will be available via taxi after the event, from Lands End to Penzance Train Station (this will be £8 per person) and from Marazion start line  (this will be £11). These will leave every  30/45 minutes depending on demand.

The shuttle tickets will be made available to buy at registration, but can be pre-order via the email address laura@pztaxi.com and paid for on the day in cash. Alternative destinations are available and can be pre-booked in advance or requested on the day. If you have any questions about destinations you can contact Penzance Taxis via email on laura@pztaxi.com

Well, you should be prepared for a long day on your feet. Certainly you should be able to comfortably complete a half marathon and you should practise being on off-road terrain, whether that’s hiking, or running. BUT, this event is not designed solely for whippet-y fell runners. It is a unique proposition. Being way-marked (which means no map and compass required) this allows you to concentrate on the task at hand – which is covering the distance, looking after your nutrition and making sure you are comfortable – good footwear and the right clothing to put on if the weather turns a bit iffy. It is summer but it can get windy and that sea air can take it out of you, too. This is a step-up for 10k road runners but it’s achievable and is built to be so.

Race entry includes a finishers eco wooden medal and a collectable Rat Rag. Event tees are available to purchase online here and in the Rat Race store at the event while stocks last.

Yes absolutely your supporters are most welcome and there will be ample opportunity for them to see you in action on course, too. Our cheery marshals on the course will hold specific information regarding their own roles but will unlikely have lots of general information for supporters. We ask that you ensure your supporters have read all the event information and that they follow our advice in order we maintain a safe environment for everyone. Cornwall is an amazing destination in the summer and we would encourage you to make a trip of it with family or friends.

Registration will be based in Penzance, which is around 5 to 10 miles from the Start and the Finish venues, between them both. It is accessed from the mainline railway network as well as from the main Cornwall A30 trunk road. Registration is on the Friday ONLY, from approximately 2pm until approximately 10pm (final times will be confirmed). Saturday race day registration will not be possible.

This kit list is from our 2023 event - you will be notified of any changes to this list ahead of the event you have signed up for.

SUBJECT TO SMALL CHANGES DEPENDING ON WEATHER CONDITIONS.

WE EXPECT YOU TO WATERPROOF YOUR KIT WITH DRYBAGS Prepare for your whole bag to get immersed and submerged at times on this route. So you must have a plan for any watches, phones, media players, phones, cameras, etc. Consider removing all jewellery.

Mandatory kit is non-negotiable to partake in this event. You must have it at registration and during the run. We have heard all the bravado of ‘skin is waterproof’, ‘I never run in waterproofs’ and ‘I will share with someone else’. As responsible event operator we take our commitments to participates, marshals, emergency services and all other stakeholders seriously, and build a risk-management system that covers all eventualities with the resources at hand, particularly if a participant is left immobile in a remote location. Not having the right kit could put yourself and others at greater risk and invalidate your insurance cover.

Note: You do NOT need any water sports gear, such as wetsuits or buoyancy aids. There will be sections where we issue a buoyancy aid which we will supply, and there are no sections where wetsuits will be required.

MANDATORY KIT

  • Trail shoes

  • Hydration bladder or bottles. A 2L carrying capacity is required.

  • Basic first aid kit containing a triangular or conformable roller bandage, assorted adhesive dressings including 1 at least 100mm x 100mm. Gauze or gauze bandage and paracetamol.

  • Spare food to be carried with you

  • Survival bag, NOT blanket

  • Whistle

  • Reusable cup suitable for hot drinks at Pit Stops

  • Waterproof Jacket with TAPED OR WELDED SEAMS as a minimum standard.

  • Insulating layer merino or synthetic similar

  • Additional full length leg cover if you are running in shorts (eg a pair of leggings, if you are wearing leggings you do not need to carry a second pair)

  • Fully charged phone

  • Method of payment (card/cash/apple pay)

  • Hat or buff suitable for weather conditions and a pair of gloves

  • Waterproof bag liner/dry bag to keep your kit dry

RECOMMENDED ADDITIONAL KIT:

  • Suncream/sunglasses

  • Blister treatment kit. Our paramedics will prioritise live cases and they are not a foot care service, we recommend that you know how to treat your feet if hot spots and blisters do occur and that you are self contained.

  • Waterproof leg cover with taped seams.

IF THERE ARE ANY CHANGES FOR THE EVENT THIS WILL BE COMMUNICATED IN THE PRE-EVENT DOCUMENTATION

The emergency kit is important for several reasons:

  1. It helps you to help yourself should you have a problem.

  2. We are in this together and you may need to assist others if they have a problem.

  3. In the case of an incident our Race Control and Medical teams will make decisions based on the knowledge that you all have this equipment.

  4. Carrying the kit is a requirement for everyone and hence provides an equal and fair challenge.

  5. It is part of our risk assessment process that is shared with insurers. Your insurance may be invalid if you do not follow our advice.

  6. If your lack of kit preparation contributes to making an incident more serious, then you may be avoidably drawing resources from our medical team and the emergency services at the expense of others.

  7. Without the kit you will be unable to complete registration. If during the race you are not carrying the mandatory kit then you will be disqualified and deemed to have not completed the challenge.

"Its one of my all time favourites, such a wild adventure ! Also a great excuse for a holiday down in Cornwall ! Well worth the trip and an adventure of a lifetime !" Zoe Attenborough

"The route was well marked, the volunteers were excellent and the scenery was stunning." Andrew Broadhurst

"I had the best experience. I never thought I'd get as far as check point 2 let alone complete the whole thing and all the activities. I really felt empowered and on top of the world with my achievement. Despite some of the "big" activities having to change due to sea conditions etc and me being near the back of the pack the martials etc made the adapted activities fun, daft and enjoyable."
